This guide provides an overview of the history of diversity policy in the U.S., dating back to Brown v. Board of Education. From there, it offers an expanded definition of diversity that is more relevant to present-day public schools. In addition, the guide details methods for engaging the community and relevant stakeholders in advocacy for diversity and describes policies that can be implemented to help make schools more diverse. The guide also provides examples of policies that have been deemed effective and provides guidance on important legal considerations.
