This study from the Center for the Study of Teaching and Policy examines the relationship between teacher qualifications and other school factors, such as class size and student achievement. The study found a strong positive relationship between teacher certification and preparation and mathematics and reading achievement. This relationship held up even after controlling for student characteristics such as language and socioeconomic status. It also discusses implications for state efforts to improve the quality of education.
