This issue brief, released by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices, draws on a study of high schools across three states conducted jointly with ACT to examine how training teachers to use standards-based instruction can impact student achievement. The brief finds that identifying gaps between instruction and standards, offering end-of-course exams as part of a comprehensive testing system, and providing challenging instruction together contribute to increased student achievement.
