OECD Skills Outlook 2013: First Results from the Survey of Adult Skills

This report presents the main findings from the Survey of Adult Skills (PIACC). PIACC was developed by OECD to measure proficiency in several skills, such as literacy, numeracy, and problem solving. Some of the key findings include: significant proportions of adults score at lower levels of proficiency in literacy and numeracy; an individual's occupation is more strongly associated with how the person uses their skills at work than his/her educational attainment; proficiency in the adult skills measured is closely related to age, and there is a relationship between skills proficiency and economic and social well-being.
