Informing Writing: The Benefits of Formative Assessment

This report published by the Alliance for Excellent Education investigates the impact of formative writing assessment and the factors that influence such assessments on student achievement. It examines whether all of these forms of assessment are effective and also identifies issues that teachers need to address to ensure that formative writing assessments provide an accurate and trustworthy measure of how effectively students convey thoughts and ideas through writing.
