Examining the Effects of High School Contexts on Postsecondary Enrollment. Research In Higher Education

Unpublished

This study uses a nationally representative sample of high school seniors that took the Educational Longitudinal Survey. The findings indicate that generally college enrollment is influenced by socioeconomic status, academic achievement variables (e.g., highest level of math taken and high school grades), aspirations of family and friends for the student to attend college, college- linking activities, parent and peer networks, and school context. However, race does not have a strong influence.
