Early Reading Proficiency

This brief from the Annenberg Institute is one in a three-part series focused use of leading indicators used by schools to close achievement gaps in learning. In this brief, the author discusses how early reading proficiency is useful to overall student achievement. In addition, the brief discusses how school districts measure this indicator and are able to use the data to improve teacher professional development, early intervention and strategies for involving communities in partnerships to increase out-of-school support for early literacy.
