Clearing the Path: Creating Innovation for Serving Over-Age, Under-Credited Students in Competency-Based Pathways.

Unpublished

This report was written in a partnership between MetisNet, Our Piece of the Pie, the International Association for K–12 Online Learning (iNACOL), and Ephraim Weisstein, an independent education consultant who is piloting the Schools for the Future program. The report discusses the benefits of competancy-based pathways for over-age, under-credited students, and what policy changes are needed to allow schools to try innovative models. The authors make recommendations for state policy-makers including releasing students and schools from time-based regulations, allowing for learning in multiple locations, and monitoring innovative programs through funding and accountability systems.
