Career Pathways Initiatives

Career Pathways Initiatives

Career pathways provide more opportunities for students to pursue their interests and experience workplace success after high school. Career pathways can provide students with training in specific career areas that are aligned with local labor market needs as well as with postsecondary credits, credentials, certificates, and degrees. This Ask the CCRS Center brief highlights national and regional career pathways initiatives and provides lessons learned for states developing and implementing a career pathways system. Career pathways development considerations include:

  • Developing a limited number of career pathways
  • Creating programs of study that align to specific postsecondary education credentials or job opportunities
  • Defining a career pathway “program of study”
