REL Midwest announces EdMaps, a new Web-mapping application that displays educational data geographically as “story maps.” EdMaps helps users analyze publicly available school- and district-level data, observe trends over time, and frame conversations on practice and policy.

Mapping the Nation (Mappingthenation.net) is a new tool that allows users to see just how interconnected their individual county and state are to the rest of the world. Created as a partnership between Asia Society, Longview Foundation, and data analytics company SAS, Mapping the Nation utilizes almost one million data points to show that we are a nation built upon diversity – demographically and economically.

The Alliance for Excellent Education hosted a Webinar titled “Youth CareerConnect Program: An Opportunity to Redefine the High School Experience and Increase College and Career Readiness” on December 18, 2013. This Webinar provided information about the U.S. Department of Labor’s Youth CareerConnect (YCC) grant program and approaches to secondary school reform within the context of the program.

On December 16th, Education Week hosted a Webinar entitled “Beyond School: Earning Credit for Real-World Experiences.” This Webinar discusses an extended learning opportunity (ELO) initiative involving Providence, Rhode Island school district and its nonprofit partner Providence After School Alliance (PASA). In selected high schools throughout the district, students participate in community programs for digital badges and course credit.

This report examines communities that are working to create shared accountability systems, and highlights the work of the Strive Partnership of Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky.
This brief argues that California and many other states have the foundations in place to build better accountability systems, and proposes a three-pronged approach to put California back on the path of national leadership.
Using Oklahoma as a case study, this article provides analysis of what happens to students after high school graduation.
This report examines the reasons why California’s current accountability system is not producing students who are graduating from high school ready for college and careers, and proposes a better alternative.
