Results of the 2009 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) in reading and mathematics at grade 12 were released on November 18th and show gains in both reading and mathematics performance.

This blog is a review of the High School Graduation Initiative (HSGI) grants that have been awarded to a wide range of applicants. Application summaries are now available on the Department of Education’s Web site.
In addition to initiating and expanding programs to prevent dropout, several HSGI awardees have also made plans to help dropouts re-enroll and recover credits to get back on track to graduate.

Multiple reports[1] indicate that the number of students with disabilities enrolled in K-12 schools has steadily increased since the initial passage of the Education of All Handicapped Children Act (P.L. 94-142) in 1975. Equally important, the number of students with disabilities who completed high school with a regular diploma increased by 50 percent between 1997/98 and 2006/07, showing a greater growth rate than the number of students exiting high school for the same period of time[2].
