College Readiness Indicator System: Building Effective Support for Students

This is a quarterly publication of the Annenberg Institute for School Improvement featuring articles from several authors. The topics covered are related to establishing College Readiness Indicator Systems (CRIS). Specifically, the chapters include the need to develop robust data systems, building and implementing a CRIS in a school district, the perspective of three school principals implementing CRIS, supporting minority students in STEM, and the role of the central school district office in implementing and utilizing CRIS.

Beyond the Pipeline: STEM Pathways for Youth Development

This report describes how Project Exploration, a STEM pipeline alternative, has identified a disproportionate exit of minority and female students from STEM programs. The authors used a mix of quantitative and qualitative data to assess efficacy of Project Exploration's efforts to engage minority and female students who traditionally are under-represented in the STEM pipeline. Based on the success of their alternative approach, the authors propose an alternative model of a STEM pipeline that is based on a matrix of progressive competencies.

Progress: Teachers, Leaders, and Students Transforming Education

The U.S. Department of Education has released a blog, Progress: Teachers, Leaders and Students Transforming Education, which highlights promising practices, lessons learned, and resources related to implementing K-12 reforms. The blog was developed to provide educators, parents, leaders, and stakeholders with information on how state and local K-12 leaders across the country are implementing education reforms.
