Increased globalization of the economy has led educators and political leaders to recognize the need to transform education in order to prepare students to succeed in the global economy.  For high schools, this means that for students to graduate ready for college and careers, they must be able to perform well not only nationally, but also among their international peers.

Policymakers and educators at the state, district, and building levels are looking to research and evaluation studies to guide policy and practice decisions. Increasingly, applications for federal and state funding require use of “evidence based” or “research supported” strategies, programs, and reform activities.

The Institute of Education Sciences’ What Works Clearinghouse has just released a report reviewing evaluations of Reading Apprenticeship® and concluded that the program has potentially positive effects on adolescents’ reading comprehension.
