New CCRS Center Resource: CCRS Interactive State Map

CCRS Interactive State Map, an interactive state map developed by the College and Career Readiness and Success Center (CCRS Center), presents the broad landscape of college and career readiness throughout the nation. The map provides a snapshot of various efforts states are taking. These initiatives include the Advanced Placement Incentive Program, career and technical education (CTE) and programs of study, dual enrollment and early college high schools, state longitudinal data systems, secondary and postsecondary alignment, and several other efforts taking place across the nation, such as the Common Core State Standards and Race to the Top. The map also provides links to additional information and state-based resources produced by other organizations working on college and career readiness.

The map’s interactive features allow visitors to choose how much of each state profile is displayed at a time. A single initiative may be displayed by expanding that section. The entire state profile may also be expanded or collapsed. In addition to the individual state profiles, visitors can compare across states and initiatives. For example, a visitor may see how several neighboring states approach secondary and postsecondary alignment. Each visitor is able to choose how much or how little information is presented, allowing for a more user-friendly experience.

Profiles for each state were developed from a variety of sources. Publicly-available information from state education agency websites, the U.S. Department of Education, and other organizations working on college and career readiness all provided source material. The map is not intended to be a comprehensive inventory of college and career readiness programs. Rather, it provides a deeper understanding of key initiatives and links to more information for those interested in conducting their own research.

The CCRS Interactive State Map will be regularly updated. New program information will be added in subsequent years as well as content for U.S. territories. For additional information about the state map or to submit a correction, contact the CCRS Center.

David Blumenthal is a research associate with the College and Career Readiness and Success Center.
